Short Stories Photography bio picture

Welcome to my blog!

Hi!  I'm, Julie, owner and artist of Short Stories Photography.  I LOVE children... I love fun... I love my wonderful job of photographing people.  I'm passionate about creating portraits that make you laugh or that touch a part of your heart.  Specializing in photographing children, I am enthusiastic about what I do and I have a great time doing it.  My clients have a great time too.  There are laughs, giggles and aw-w-w-s heard throughout the session. If you are a client of mine, you know that already.  If you are not, then you just have to come and see for yourself!

I have my heart for the week

It is Miss “L”s Spring break this week and I have the pleasure of having her stay with us.    We went outside for the second part of her 8th birthday session.  She knows all the right spots in the garden, the tree, and the chair to give me that model look.  (The tree was a bit tricky since it was too high for her to get up there by herself and she is too heavy for me to lift. It must have been a funny sight!)  Sigh….love her to pieces!

Julie Arch - She is just lovely! Wonderful photos!04/04/2012 - 1:27 pm

My heart….8 going on 18

This is Miss “L”.  She just turned 8 earlier this month.  She is my granddaughter, my muse, my heart.  We wanted to have her 8th birthday session today and we did do some work in the studio, but it was too chilly to go outside.  So that is for another time.  I picked her up from school.  She told me that she had dressed for her session.  She is the family fashionista.  She always gets compliments at school on what she is wearing.  She always looks like she is about to break out in song or dance like the young girls that you see on TV.  She obviously watches them closely, and her own images can attest, as they pose and look straight into the camera. She has glasses that she has to wear sometimes and she even poses well with those on her face.  How cute is she with those?  Sigh…    I can still see the innocence and sweetness there in her.  But she can turn the pose on more quickly than I can push the shutter button on the camera.  Isn’t this age supposed to be still giggling and playing with baby dolls?  When did they start growing up so fast…faster than we did?  I think that this is hitting me harder than it should… probably because  they will be moving sometime this summer to another state.  So I will have to deal with my melancholy days of where time went at a later date and enjoy our precious time together now……watching her grow so fast.  Enjoy!

The “D” children was here!

I have photographed the two older ones before, but they added a bundle of energy to the mix and we were off and running during the session.  She is a great addition to a workout plan!  Miss “R” had no choice but to just be cute.  She had so many better things to do than sit still for a portrait. It is fascinating to see what they are up to when they go off on their own adventure.  Miss “E” has grown into a graceful young lady.  She is a sweetheart and was a real trooper the whole time.  Mr. “J” has an ornery grin and dimples that will melt your heart.  I am in love with the black and white image!  I have also included an outtake of the session toward the end that expresses exactly how he felt by the time we were done.  All in all, a wonderful session with beautiful kids.  Enjoy!

Jeepers Peepers winner was here!

Miss “H” was here with her huge peepers!  She played a little with the Swing into Spring set too.  You can really get lost in her big eyes!  She has the cutest little grin and loved the flowers on the swing.  She also was the one that picked out her first outfit that she wanted to wear for her session…..a true model and diva.  But the cutest kind, ya know.  Enjoy!

Mr. “Phat Phebruary” winner was here!

Well,  Mr. “C” is the rollie, dimply,  stylin’  version of “phat”  He was oh, so serious.  Then he was the good old smiley guy.  One thing for sure, he was a charmer!  His big brown eyes were pools of sweetness and he had a crooked serious grin that could melt anyone’s heart.  Big sis got in on some action too.  She can walk the catwalk then strike a pose with the best of them!  She has grown so much since I last saw her and is every bit of cuteness that she was before.  Enjoy!

Swing into Spring with Miss “K”!

Miss “K” is all about Spring!  She loves to swing….loves to hold flowers….loves to wrestle with the “tiny” bear in the studio….loves to just be cute! She was so busy,  in between moments to climb the set of  stairs that she put together while she was here, she came over to give us her best smiles and warm our hearts with her personality.  I love having her here!  Enjoy!

Allison - Julie, words cannot express how much I love the images you capture of Kherington. We love coming to see you and look forward to seeing you next month for our annual Mommy and Me session. :)03/16/2012 - 7:17 pm

My 4th assignment

I am in a challenge that requires an image every two weeks, and this time it was diptych or triptych.  Feeling a little like I want Spring to be here, I went back through some images from the time in the past years that was warm and sunny.  This is what I found.  Miss “L”, running around in the sun, without a care.  She had just picked some flowers from the garden, which was one of her favorite things to do outside. Oh, to feel that free!  I am using this for my Facebook timeline image because it makes me smile every time I see it.  We have had a wonderful winter here, and I feel terrible for those that have had a ton of snow and the bad weather recently.  I hope that God is with them and blesses them all.  I thought we could all use a little time to be carefree and happy.  Enjoy.

Mr. “C”

Mr. “C” was here for his “sitting so big” part of his baby plan.  Oh, what a handsome guy!  He was so smiley and easy going.  And the drool!!  Love it!  He was adorable  in all of the hats too!  Ladies, watch out, the charmer is coming! Can you guess that he looks good in green?  Enjoy.

Natalie Clayshulte - He is so cute! I just love the green froggy hat. Adorable images!03/06/2012 - 10:42 am

Miss “A”…one of the Phat Phebruary winners was here!

Imagine my joy when I opened the door to this little cutie!  She was “Phat” in the styling sense of the word, not the chunky variety, but worth every second that we took to dress and redress her in her adorable outfits.  She was a model in the making and more than willing to show us what she had in the way of cute smiles and precious expressions.  Mom, let’s keep the little secret of what she kept doing in the studio that was so funny between us, OK?  I laughed about that all day. Here are a few from her session.  Enjoy!

Sandy Cochran - Great photos, Julie. I was with Avery the day you did the photo shoot. You got some great shots of her!! Awesome work!03/25/2012 - 1:42 pm
